Mayfield Avenue, Widnes

Proposed new retirement living

McCarthy Stone is preparing to submit a planning application to develop a vacant site on Mayfield Avenue to deliver a retirement living development for people over the age of 55, alongside four new separate homes.

We wanted you to be among the first to know about the emerging plans, for our high quality, low-maintenance retirement apartments and to invite you to share your feedback.

Contributing To Local Needs

Between 2011 and 2021, the proportion of people aged 65+ in the borough of Halton grew by 29.3%, and it is projected to grow further*. Residents should have the opportunity to stay close to their hometown and to their family in later life. Dedicated retirement living developments in central locations such as Widnes provide that opportunity, helping free up family housing for younger families, whilst also contributing towards local regeneration.

We strongly believe that this development will be a local asset and represents an important opportunity to meet an acknowledged and growing need for specialist local housing.

Making Retirement Living More Affordable

Retirement living makes an enormous difference to the lives of older people. It helps residents stay happier and healthier for longer, enabling them to maintain their independence, find a community and make new friendships. It combines the best features of your own home with the ability to have care and support on hand when required. It is a way of living that adapts to your changing needs.

We strongly believe that all residents should have the opportunity to access this style of retirement living. At McCarthy Stone we have developed a new way of delivering these developments that can make them more affordable. Through adopting approaches like modern methods of construction we can reduce overall development costs, which ultimately reduce the cost of the apartments for residents.

What Happens Next?

We will continue to develop the proposals for the site and intend to submit a hybrid planning application to Halton Borough Councill this winter.
